  • Have you ever wondered how effective your training is?
  • Are you unable to lose weight despite exercising?
  • Have you hit a plateau?
  • Looking for maximal results in a time efficient manner?
  • Are you interested in improving your athletic performance?
  • Would you like to take the guesswork out of training?

If you answered yes to any of these question then read on to learn more about VO2 max testing.  By using VO2 you can train more accurately, effectively and safely.

VO2  MAX TESTING
VO2 max is he maximal oxygen use during exercise.  This measurement reflects your overall physical fitness and is a key component to success in prolonged exercise activities.  It is accurate and reproducible.  In fact, VO2 max is widely accepted as the BEST measure of cardiovascular fitness and aerobic power.
The test is performed on a medical treadmill or professional cyclometer (stationary bicycle) in our office.  Since the test requires exercising to near maximal levels of exertion it is done under medical supervision.
The test begins with 10-20 minutes of strenuous cardio exercise.  During the test you wear a mask which directly measures your oxygen flow and breathing rate.  The following are determined from the test:
  1. VO2 max
  2. Lactate threshold-LT (also known as your anaerobic threshold)
  3. VO2 at LT
  4. Heart rate at LT
  5. Ventilatory threshold at LT
  6. Determination of your maximal heart rate

Knowing your lactate threshold allows you to achieve a very high level of cardiovascular conditioning without the discomfort of muscle damage that can occur due to lactic acid buildup during over-training or training at an intensity that is greater than you are ready for.

Every program begins with an assessment of your current medical state.  If you have not had a stress test recently or you have known heart problems then you will need medical clearance from your doctor before considering testing.

The VO2 test gives us the information needed to create a customized cardio program, if you would like, based on your fitness level and personal goals.

Once a plan is created, you will then get a detailed orientation that addresses the cardiovascular components (daily workout sheets) of your program.

You may choose to integrate strength, flexibility and nutrition/diet components based on your need. (please see products and pricing tabs)

Choosing the right program can OPTIMIZE your improvements and overall health.  A few sessions with Dr. Howard will help you stay on track as well.

If your goal is to run a 10k, tackle a triathlon, or take your game to the next level, I have a tailored, well mapped program ready for you, no matter what your fitness level is today.

I am ready for you.  Are you ready to take that first step in changing your life?

Today is the beginning of a healthier you!

See the next section on Exercise Metabolic Testing.  The VO2 described above is EMT taken above 85% of Maximum.
